Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between breeches and riding leggings?
Breeches have a tailored waistband, belt loops and a structured fit for competition; riding leggings — breggings — use a pull-on elastic waist for schooling comfort. Both have silicone grip and a high stretch content. For shows, most riders choose classic breeches; for daily training, either works.
What is silicone grip and where is it placed?
Silicone grip is a printed or bonded pattern on the fabric that holds your leg steady against the saddle. Our models come in two versions: full seat grip, which covers the seat and inner leg for maximum security in dressage and jumping, and knee grip along the inner leg, which steadies the calf while leaving the seat free. Full seat suits riders who want the leg absolutely quiet; knee grip suits everyday schooling and a lighter feel.
Are anti-slip breeches worth it?
For most riders, yes — grip is what keeps the leg quiet through transitions and lateral work instead of creeping up in the saddle. What matters is placement: grip where the leg actually contacts the saddle, not spread across the whole garment, so the fabric still moves with the hip and knee.
What fabric are Valerie Equestrian breeches made of?
Competition models are 72% polyester with 28% spandex; other models use 81% nylon with 19% spandex. Both are stretch blends with a high elastane content, breathable and quick-drying, and both hold light compression through a full riding day without bagging at the knee.
Are these breeches suitable for competition?
Yes — the competition models come in show-legal colours with a clean, tailored look and belt loops. Pair them with a show shirt and a competition show jacket for a coordinated turnout.
How do I choose my breeches size?
Measure your waist and hips in centimetres and follow the size chart on the product page — each model lists its own measurements. The stretch fabric moulds to the body as you wear it, so if you are between two sizes, take the smaller one: it settles into a closer, more supportive fit rather than loosening over the day.
How do I wash riding breeches without ruining the grip?
Wash at up to 30°C on a gentle cycle, inside out, and air dry — never tumble dry and never iron the grip. Heat is what degrades silicone: it hardens, cracks and loses hold. Cool washing and air drying keep the grip working for seasons.
Do you ship internationally, and are duties included?
Shipping is free on every order worldwide. Orders to the United Kingdom and the European Union include all import duties and taxes in the price at checkout, so there is nothing to pay on delivery.
